“Big Brother,” originally a character in George Orwell’s novel Nineteen Eighty Four, was a supreme ruler that had control over a totalitarian state. This fictional society that Orwell creates, is described as under complete surveillance by authorities, where “Big Brother is Watching you.”

In this years CBS Big Brother 7, not only will Big Brother be watching over the houseguests, but viewers are also granted ruling power over the house as they choose their 6 favorite previous houseguests to compete in the “All-Stars” series. I wonder if this is what Orwell had in mind? Just like propaganda was used to control the population in Orwell’s book, propaganda for houseguests will be coming forth at all angles- people reflecting upon houseguests previous moves in Big Brother forums all over the net, and fans judging them on their past performances by watching past clips, commercials and their promotional videos…. Propaganda for Big Brother Houseguests will be everywhere on t-shirts, flyers, forums, TV…. there is no telling how extreme fans will go… Who will you vote for? Read more…

The gladiolus, which is often called the Sword Lily because of its shape, was, in fact, named after the gladiator’s weapon of choice, the sword. The root of the word gladiolus is “gladius,” which means sword.

Though it has ancient associations with working class gladiators, the gladiolus is also marked by nobility. The gladiolus was chosen by the founders of the French monarchy to appear in the fleur-de-lys, the royal emblem of France.

The gladiolus is also a flower of romance. An arrangement of gladiolus shows the recipient that he or she “pierces the heart” like the sword after which it is named. In fact, the roots of the gladiolus were once thought to be an aphrodisiac.

Jay Jenkins was born on October 12, 1977.  His stage name is Young Jeezy.  He is a popular rapper who grew up in Macon, Georgia, and currently lives in Atlanta.  Young Jeezy, who was formerly a member of Boyz N Da Hood from Bad Boy Records, is currently signed with Def Jam Records.

He is often referred to as the “Snowman” by himself and others.  This nickname is said to be related to his prior job as a cocaine dealer, though Young Jeezy says that it is just his alter ego.  This nickname inspired Jeezy to produce his own t-shirt line with a simple picture of a snowman with an angry face.  While the t-shirts have grown in popularity, some high schools have banned the shirts because of the drug connotation undertones.
